Evidence to Action: Exploring the evidence to enable the elimination of restrictive practices in Australia

The NDRP is thrilled to announce our first Evidence to Action event on 5 December, Exploring the Evidence to Enable the Elimination of Restrictive Practices in Australia.

The NDRP’s Evidence to Action program will curate inclusive events that aim to bring together the disability community, Disability Representative Organisations (DROs), Disabled Persons Organisations (DPOs), researchers, service providers and policy makers.

Our first Evidence to Action event will explore the evidence to enable the elimination of restrictive practices in Australia. This is a priority aligned with the NDRP’s Research Agenda, and in planning the event we worked closely with Disabled Persons and Representative Organisations, who identified eliminating restrictive practices as an urgent focus.

Through this event, the NDRP and its collaborators are aiming to strengthen understanding of the harm caused by restrictive practices and the research that is needed to reduce and eliminate them. It will share a range of expert viewpoints, with a focus on lived experiences.

By examining the existing evidence, we aim to identify opportunities for future research to enable the elimination of restrictive practices.

“It’s critical to work towards better research with and by people with disability about eliminating restrictive practices. This is a big topic and the NDRP takes our role seriously in supporting this work,” says Sue Tape, NDRP’s Head of Evidence to Action.

“This event will be a key discussion of what we know and what research is urgently needed.”

The event will be held on Zoom with Auslan interpretation and captioning.

About Evidence to Action

The Evidence to Action program collaborates with a range of people with lived experience and other experts to explore evidence, identify research and evidence gaps, build connections and discuss barriers to the application of evidence across topics in line with the NDRP’s Research Agenda.
